The Only Thing More Annoying Than the 6-7 Trend Is Cancer
Unless you've been hiding under a rock, you've probably seen the endless 6-7 trend floating around social media. Well, after careful consideration, I've decided the only thing more annoying than the 6-7 trend is cancer. Thankfully, unlike social media trends, cancer doesn't get the final say around here.

One of the best things we've noticed this week is that David's appetite continues to improve every day. When he was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, it had already spread to his neck, lungs, abdomen, and spleen. In less than a week, we've noticed the lumps in his neck and abdomen beginning to shrink. We know we still have a long road ahead, but seeing even these small signs of progress gives us hope.
Day 6 was a pretty lazy day.
Actually, let's be honest... we both slept most of the afternoon.
I knew that being a caregiver would require a lot from me, but I didn't realize just how exhausting it could be. I have absolutely no problem taking on extra responsibilities around the house so David can focus on resting and healing. I would do it every single day if it helps him in this fight.
But whew... it's tiring.
And if we're being honest, recovering from a concussion while trying to care for someone going through chemotherapy probably isn't the ideal combination.
That said, we are incredibly fortunate to have the people we do surrounding us.
A friend invited us over for dinner, and we were absolutely blown away. She made homemade pot roast with baked potatoes and carrots. As if that wasn't enough, she surprised us with a Dairy Queen ice cream cake.
But this wasn't just any ice cream cake.
Written across the top was a message for David:
"David. Hawkeye Tough. Chemo Rough."
Cue the tears.
Those extra acts of kindness remind us just how amazing our tribe truly is. Sometimes it's easy to forget how many people are standing beside you until they start showing up in ways you never expected.
This journey has reminded us just how fortunate and blessed we are.
It's the little gestures that mean so much. She didn't have to buy an ice cream cake. She certainly didn't have to take the extra step of having it personalized.
But she did.

Today, David was able to go back to work.
I'm so proud of him.
Not that I ever doubted he would. Anyone who knows David knows he's one of the toughest people you'll ever meet. But seeing him get up, get ready, and head back to work after everything he's faced over the last week was still a pretty incredible moment.
Cancer may have shown up uninvited, but it's quickly learning that it picked a fight with the wrong guy.
One day at a time.
One treatment at a time.
One victory at a time.
And today felt like a victory.
